Chug Boat ! A Macmillian fundraiser in Bournemouth

It’s been a while! But Campari Safari the italo themed party is back in its hometown of bournemouth ….

We have been biding our time and waiting for the stars to align and what stars we have in our orbit, thanks by and large to a certain lovely lady who put together a party / sponsored climb to raise money in Aid of Macmillian and in memory of a friend a party called the sequin climb has raised nearly 5 grand for macmillian djs and dancers and climbers got together at scafell pike in the lake district in March and some of the DJS and crew are reunited for one night and maybe more ( lets see ) parties….

Chugging all night in slow mo, sonically deep on the lovely Void sound system

DAYTRIPTOMARS
Strength Of Ten
Spritz b2b Campari Safari

4th June at the Four horse men pub basement club The Sequin Climbers are partially reunited at The Four horsemen pub which has seen the likes of Peza thanks to Bournemouth legend Mike Speed who booked Peza , Mike speed and Bronson are instrumental in keeping the true underground spirit of Bournemouth alive and you who can read about Bournemouth and MIKe and Bronson here here in an article for the Ransome Note I wrote many moons ago

On the night we have two hardcore keepers of the flame Jenny 20, Alice Palace and Kilmo from the Hush Club who has been bringing the best parties to the BH postcode inc parties with Warm (who’ve just launched a label) Luke Unabomber , wild swimming myth debunker and proponent of E soul cultura – which you can purchase his comp of this late night soulful sound of strange enveloping music that sounds great on max strength rave 4.0 mega ecstasy HERE AT MR BONGO ….BE sure to listen to his essential World Wide show and his lovely observations about dj culture, Andrew Weatherall and the wider world we live in ) …Hush Club have also warmed up for the lovely Horsemeat disco and they with Warm and LOkey are doing a great job of keeping Bournemouth alive and proving you can get people dancing to proper music again in this wee tacky town of holidaying road men, creatin cretins and fake bake loons,

I digress !! so The DJs onboard for Chug boat are top fucking sweet as nice 1 swallow dove mitzi punisher double stacked speckled hard stamped in holland level disc jockeys …check Jenny 20 ( so named as, twenty is plenty !! I’m guessing these are late 90s early 2000s low grade eggs as that’s a one way ticket to A&E with Neon jaundice ) her mix for living legend and scholar of Disco Bill Brewster’s Paradise Farage mix series is up there with the best, look no further for a proto trance revisionism / strong chug DNA / … there’s a lot of classics in here and newish tracks that sound deliciously retro and you really should use the wonder of Shazam to track every last track …

a stand out one for me is Roza Terenzi and D Tiffany – Chosen Family Feud

https://stepballchain.bandcamp.com/track/chosen-family-feud-roza-terenzi-d-tiffany

Jenny is based in hastings and will be making her debut for the Hush club on 4th June – she’s headlining the unofficial after party here at the Fourhorsemen basement 8- 2am £6 tickets with all profits going to Macmillian cancer support

also on deck is Alice Palace who’s spun at the Hush Club on a previous jaunt to Bournemouth

she will be reprising the same line up and going B2B with Kilmo

here’s both sets from Kilmo and Alice

for you leisure and Pleasure we also have Spritz Or Liam, i’m lucky enough to meet him through the wonder of ALFOS and through cosmic connections and love he is going to be living in Bournemouth, something about magnetic magic or maybe just getting old and retiring ? Apparently Nina Walsh has moved to Dorset so sabres seem to be pulled to the key lines of the south … Liam/ Spritz has made a specific mix to mark his Journey south and its called So Long and Thanks for all the Fish which is a Douglas Adams Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy reference ….im gonna digress again another book I need to get round to reading but thanks to Del another Alfos friend through the wonderful conduit light ( log girl ) lady I know and Love I have been gifted two wonderful books and have to read , I I read Bobby G s book Tenement Kid and that was essential to any sabre / scream team person .. before I Post spritz mix I got to say Del is an amazing dj and he did a fantastic mix for my show on Room Radio the Dublin based station set up by Sumatran Black and La Maison Dieu

here it is

here is my Weatherall tribute for the room radio see safari show

here is Dels mix which contains a Veslemes track that is constantly come to me as an ear worm https://veslemes.bandcamp.com/album/apolithomaes

Del is an avid Sabrette and has a vast knowledge of the physical tangible world and the esoteric knowledge meeting him and fellow sabre people like spritz has made my life a 100% better and its all thanks to the conduit light conductor, so this party marks me coming back to putting on parties something i’ve done as a hobby but also the point of my existence to get people in a room with flashing lights and pulsing music and get them In a feverish state something the God head Weatherall was so good at and through his legacy and Seans with Alfos and all the music makers that look to him ..anyway i’m waffling on here

here is Spritzs mix

feats a lot of Sworn Virgins who ( on Deewee the hottest Platten label right now and Soulwax bros own version of Factory records ) recently for me are a joy to discover with Clams who is the sexy sleazy voice of Warmduscher and Quinn of Paranoid London read more about them here in the test pressing interview with these 2 freakzzz the mix is also heavy on Red Axes who recently knocked my socks off at Village underground on an amazing weekend with the Scottish Alfos crew

ALFOS inspired mix

what a club what an experience, finally after many years away I came back and danced at this legendary night, thanks to Sean and all of the people that make it so special, some of the discoveries of music have really inspired me and the feeling of hearing tracks like Bruise -Theme ( diesel express two ) on a big system at Phonox last week was really earth shattering and moving , i welled up a couple of times and the feeling of awe and losing my body and becoming the dance was something I’ll never forget, the trance dance is real, psy trance can fuck off ! it takes the deep rhytmic heartbeat speed of 120 and melodies and textures that can be found at A Love From Outer Space to send you into space.

in this mix which of course can only give a tiny slice of what you might hear there with zillas on acid , duncan gray red axes and more, I tried to put in a few tracks that summarise / fit the feeling of the club , so for instance Talk Talk – happiness is easy was a track that fits as the feeling of happieness can be achieved and of course it can be achieved by dancing and what dancing, I havent danced like that in decades, holding on to the booth and feeling every beat every texture and feeling totally lost in music

a funny side to ALFOs is the chat, the owl chat, the music freaks all relishing each track and the connections you make with people who for them ALFOS has been a focus and escape through these difficult times

a track that makes me giggle and think of the humour is ketamine boogie by mr tophat

“I go out when it feels right. I do dance. I do dance. I do dance. I never been to this kinda party. I don’t have friends like this. I see cats, I see dogs. I can’t stop.
It is Mr. Tophat. It makes me dance.” that could sum it up , cats and dogs and owls and other animals

an older track that sammy d waxed lyrically and the awe felt by him on the dancefloor , i cant wait to be with him at the Heavenly Social on the 20th https://soundcloud.com/sammy-d/festival-no6-rondo-linx-campari-safari

the track that Sean’s been playing and hitting me hardest on an emotional level is his Hardway bros remix of James Bright – Suburbia the melancholy vocal and the sample from The Beloved sun rising

The Cosmic Hep Cat : Horton Jupiter Hackney Hero and plate spinner of pyschedelic joy discs plus return of BAD GUYS and RAW POWER

Horton has been someone in my orbit closely linked by various friends ( Conrad the space boy always wide awake and lovely! Being a member of They Came From She Stars (I Saw Them) and face around hackney ) who have spoken of his wonderous works in an awe of wonder, fronting the legendary warehouse, field and traditional music venue spell casting band They Came From She Stars (I Saw Them), from my brief time living in London I never got to see them, despite them being a huge force in Hackney ( with its cosmic pyschedelic power being written about more eloquently here by flandering red rose of hackney Iain Sinclair.

As an eleven piece band Dadaist
pop combo that could be described as something between Parliament, Can, Neu, Prince and a bit of Sun Ra, I’m gutted I never saw them as they were described to me as being of another world by Matt Hump my good mate and founder of Campari Safari. I feel so wistful for the times of the Hackney and Finnsbury park warehouse days of the late 90s( only ventured into hoxton in 98 to go to the 333 to see Jarvis Cocker banging out LFO ) into mid to late 2000s. It seems a world away when you could sign on, skin up, put on a night with a band of freaks and heros ( see also Chrome Hoof ) and live in a kind of paradise and just about make the rent and beer n bracket money ( ugh if i could have all that money back now .. rangor ) , someone much better at writing about life and music is John Doran and this interview with Joe from Wrong speed records and Hey Colossus perfectly nails that feeling of Mark E Smith screeching Leave the Capital… sadly unless you’re financially very comfortable London is just not possible anymore… but digressing. My point is that bands like They Came From She Stars (I Saw Them) and Chrome Hoof and Bad Guys ( also a warehouse freak band mentioned in the video below.) were the last great bohemian freaks that were independent gesamtkunstwerk artists, life as art , communal living, no compromise, fight fuck freak out hair balls , blood sweat and tears rock and roll animals. There ! That’s that said, lofty bollox out the way !. Anyway you can see them again Bad Guys have reformed for one night only , Chrome Hoof, Gum Takes Toof Teeth Of The Sea and many other freaks are back because RAW POWER the freak fest run by excellent london based promoters Baba yagas hut ( unforgettably for me they put on one of my favorite events ever at the corsica studio ) which included a whos who of london talents promoters djs and musicians ( Richard Sen a god )

The Bush Tetras (exclusive UK show)
Emperor Machine
Chik Budo
Kasms

Djs
JD Twitch ( OPTIMO)
Allez Allez
Damon Martin ( Disco Bloodbath)
SoulJazz Soundsystem
Richard Sen ( Padded Cell )
StopMakingSense DJs
Joe Angular

RAW POWER that was held in London at the The Dome in Tuffnell park is back !! digressing …. back to the hero of the story ….

So Horton left the capital just before the lock down came, lucky escape, it was hard on him just as it was on others but being a social animal it was probably especially hard, but he got busy and started making new music / cut ups / edits dancefloor bombs and deep sounds, I cant wait to hear him spin as given this description in his own words and previous form he sounds like the ideal cosmic captain, recently I heard some of his tracks on the Feed Your Head show a source of many chug belters. So I reached out to him and we talked a bit about the good Lord Sabre and his continuing influence on everything and the love of echoey spacey sounds that the sabre gave us.

Horton’s radio shows as Mystic Rock showcased his love of breaks and freaky acid fried music and these edits would bang on the amyl

his shows are all up on mixcloud now so dig deep and shamzam the shizer out of it like you would with ALFOS EBS

side note : I am freaking out at the prospect of Dancing at Phonox on the 25th July for my first ALFOS in over 6 years since Electric Elephant and the early years at The Drop…

His purpleness and Hortons love for the ever supreme funksexmusicologist is felt on this series of edits

as a DJ of events he is in his own words

” Horton Jupiter is a force of nature, on a mission to leave dancefloors breathless,
playful, sweaty, scratching their heads, shaking their body down to the ground,
laughing their heads off, and screaming for mercy. He is searching for the sweet
spot in the middle of the Venn diagram between Fun and Freaky, flipping
effortlessly between house bangers, krautrock, twisted pop classics, percussion
workouts, daft surprises, and every flavour of psychedelic and cosmic disco
under the sun, just as likely to play Lionel Richie’s All Night Long as he is a free
jazz interlude or a nice bit of Can, Chic, Prince, Mongolian nose flute, or
whatever else might be in the bag tonight. It always takes him a long time to
pack his bag of vinyl before every gig as the obvious question of “what to play?”
tussles with the less obvious “what to leave out?”, and with a record collection as
broad as this DJ has it can take a while.
Horton Jupiter has been DJing since the age of 9, started his own radio program
at the age of 12 and did his first remix (of The Human League) 2 yrs later, edited
onto tape,20 years before he’d even heard of legendary disco pioneers Tom
Moulton or DJ Harvey, making his first experimental / ambient music on the BBC
computers at school age 15 in the mid 80’s.
After 10 years as a house / techno / whatever DJ through the 90’s, 4 years as
one of the original Club Kosmische resident DJs and 11 years fronting Dadaist
pop combo They Came From The Stars (I saw them) he was currently co-
promoting 4 distinct nights in London’s clamour before moving back north just
before C19 struck. Since then he has been working on new music and hanging
out with his cat, cultivating his inner recluse. ”

Mariano Sibilia / Fab May Day/ Sammy D and the power of the Love from Outer space Italian connection ,intergenerational, interspacial.. ever evolving ultra brain

Amistad

This is a personal Blog, I put my heart and soul into what I write and I generally only write about people I know personally or are mutual friends, I dont write often and churn out words, I dont consume music or consume culture and spit it out I pay for it, I enjoy it , It consumes me, I always wanted to present music and present it well in concerts and venues that fit the place, a few times I feel I could have stayed in the field of promoting music and djing but I felt too sad and too out of touch. I just couldnt hold it together anymore I got my confidence knocked and felt let down by people and by myself. Living with anxiety and depression is difficult and Im still on a path to learn how to behave or rather to be with myself. When someone hurts you and attacks you or tells you how to live your life in a non constructive aggressive manner its overwhelming especially when its someone who is supposed to be polite and kind and is a guest in your place. I often find that the people I most click with are musical or artisitic in some way and have something in them and an instant rapport is made, one common bond between my best mates who love music is they all love the chug of Weatherall and the dancefloor at ALFOS , its hypnotic and so great because alot of the tunes are rooted in great 8os synthpop or balearic or just original acid house spirit … Sean is a saint for continuing it and last night was really moving , hearing tracks that have made me feel alive again like Haules Baules creeper and

Richard Sen who deserves a whole club for himself his work is something i need time to dig into more

craig bratley Birdshell those early ALFOS bombs sounded so good

I only wish we could all attend some real events ,ive only been to a few but this new year I’m going to seek out more cadets and I met some last night who are even living in Southbourne ! Fran if you read this lets book Richard Sen !

it takes all sorts and all sorts of people make music or are involved in music but usually with an ability in music or and enjoyment of music theres a link to the melancholy and a deep well of sadness. Its hard to sometimes stay afloat and this year for everyone has been extra hard and the realisation comes that life is about making memories and making memories with the people you love.

Two people … Fab ive known for a long time since a mutual friend Marzio put us in touch when his band came to play in London at the Barfly… through Marzio I met Fab and he is the club booker for Urban in Perugia, over many events we booked and swapped nights , the absolute peak was bringing Andrew weatherall to play his night Italo Italians, we met the king, we dined with the guvnor, he regaled us of tales of Bobby G, the long slow walk to the gents , he cracked jokes and he commented on my heavy knit jumper asking if it was Levis selvedge and I remarked no its actually marks and sparks and from my mum , gratefully he didnt rip me a new one, I also gave him a cdr from a young Daniel Avery that night …. as Im sure it was me that gave him his big break marp marp lol !!

fabs label Italo italians has put out some great music and fabs worked with a host of amazing people like Ajello /dj rocca , san proper , loads

https://www.beatport.com/track/catch-fire-fab-mayday-remix/3932689

Fab and I with Sammy D our mutual mate had long planned to do club nights in london and fortunately I had good relations with Nathan Wilkins ( the drop ) where ALFOS started out and also with Casper Clark through putting on nights at the Lock Tavern, through these wonderful forces of clubland we were able to put on some great parties under the name Another Island and with some colaborations with Jonny Chingas of Lazermagnetic , we met some real legends like Zernell and Phill Perry and feeling way out of our depth we managed to wing it, we did have some quite tough ones ( shoreditch and stoke newington is a differnt beast on the weekend )

Sammy D is a great Dj but like a lot of DJs he’s got a day job, I long to be with my buddy again and put on nights, I miss sitting on the door and waiting to see if anyone would come to our little club nights and they did and thats mostly in part to sammy and his gang of lovely friends, I took a chance on a few young djs from Vienna including my mate Zoltan ……. Sammy what a guy , this mix is timeless, i come back to it for the memories of Playing at Electric Elephant … EE being hugely important in the bond between Weatherall and Sean Johnson and the beautiful thing that is A Love From Outer space… like many weatherallites we have all be shedding a tear since feb

whenever we played it was certain we would play this that and Prefab Sprout , BOBBY DONT LIVE AT HOME

my fave memeory is dancing with him in a fountain outside the vienna parliment at 6 in the morning after a night with Rory Phillips came to play Everybodies Darling the first big night in Vienna …thanks to Bert Jachmann for that he supported disco and supported Manuel and I in putting on some great nights

fast forward to 2018 I met Angelo in Tenerife and he introduced me to his Friend Mar Bill or Mariano Siblia

we went surfing and spent days together and he played me his deep techno and ambient music, hes living in London and working and recently he’s been making incredible Ambient textures

this show on Noods radio on Inkling you can hear the soft crunchy sounds

https://noodsradio.com/shows/inklingroom-w-emillski-mariano-siblia-4th-august-20

heres hoping Mar puts out on Italo Italians soon! FORZA !

I really hope I can get all three together in a room and after last nights life affirming ALFOS cadet gathering that urge is even stronger ….
